Coal Usage has Increased by 32.5% in the UK
A few Weeks ago I discussed how China are to increase exports to Europe now that the US has moved in the direction of Gas. Following this, there is an interesting article I have spotted about how the US are now looking into exporting their Coal. Can we expect to see a decrease in Coal prices due to the added Competition ? Will this encourage European Distributors to lower their prices ?
Personally I think not as quality will always be at the forefront of Heating your Home. Heating your home is not a luxury and something we can ill afford to neglect.
We get asked regularly "What is the Best Coal". The Best Coal anyone can buy is what heats their Homes in a manner that is as effective and efficient as possible. Usually with Premium Coal you will find a higher heat output which in turn will reach the desired temperatures quicker. So, That £7 bag of coal could possibly give you so much more than the £4.99 bag !
An interesting Statistic is that Coal usage in the UK is up 32.5%. This telling sign only goes to show how badly the Economy is, and that we are much more content in Spending £7 on a bag of coal than a £200 Oil fill that will last us 3 weeks !
Effectively we have come full circle and returned to where we toiled in the 80's. We now think Differently and explore various ways to exploit Coal. Solid Fuel Boilers and Multi-Fuel Boilers to name but a few, lead the charge in getting the best out of coal.
Coal is a commodity that we rely on. Countries such as the US & China are to begin wielding it in what is an already fiercely competitive market. Will this drive down prices ? probably not, but for as long as oil prices soar, gas prices creep up and electricity rates crucify us. Coal will always be the most economical source of fuel with the UK's usage percentage as valid proof.

All the Coal in China !
It is a common perception that coal comes from 2 to 3 countries worldwide. It can be said that Colombian Coal is the premium product on the Market and Closely Followed by Polish Coal.
But alas, there are other Countries other than the usual suspects and one sleeping giant could become the biggest player in the world market on the Product.
China can be typified by its mass produced electrical products, but a country with the largest population and workforce in the world has to be a player at some point ?
Coal accounts for 28% of the worlds fuel usage but in China that statistic is Somewhat Higher. With Coal accounting for 70% of China's fuel usage surely the finger points at a higher European consumption.
China's coal exports have always been centered towards the US Market but with large parts of the US switching to Gas all this Coal has to go Somewhere !

Why Burn Kiln Dried Hardwood ?
With the sudden lean towards Solid Fuel Boilers and Wood burning stoves, it is the common assumption that wood is wood. This is certainly not the case as many experts state the effects of wet fire wood are dramatic on appliances and Chimneys.
In an article from an online publication an established Chimney Sweep states "When you burn wet wood, you lose a lot of heat because the water has to be boiled off. Plus, you add to the pollution problem. About 40 percent of the local particulate pollution problem has been traced to firewood, but switching to dry wood would reduce emissions"
In essence the heat your fire generates is being wasted drying the timber out before it burns ! This is a dramatic waste of money and is nothing only the water tablet effect in that you see the flame and smoke and assume there's heat !
The Solution is very simple in Kiln Dried Hardwood. Kiln Dried Hardwood is specially dried to the point that the timber in question has a moisture level below 20%. Kiln Dried hardwood can be said to burn 3 times longer than standard timbers such as spruce with as much as 3 times the heat.
Due to the Kiln Dried Process it will also eliminate the nasty Creosote residue left by sappy blocks, and in turn is cleaner not only for your home but for the environment too.
Therefore, by burning spruce, pine or even standard hardwood blocks your money really is going up the Chimney ! Its calculated that as much as 80% of the heat from your fire is lost through the Chimney, so the added value of wet blocks is a burden that Strata Ireland can ease.
Call a member of the team today for more information on our Kiln Dried Hardwood Blocks.
